WHO WE ARE

Thozhi informally networks the NGOs to support women workers in district-specific industries like shoe, match, textile, garment, cashew, betel nut, and rice mills across 13 districts in Tamil Nadu.

"Thozhi," which sounds feminine and means comradeship or friendship, perfectly embodies the spirit of unity and support that defines our organization. Since 2014, Thozhi has informally initiated efforts by networking NGOs to facilitate women workers in district-specific industries and workplaces such as the shoe industry, match industry, migrant worker sectors, textile industry, garments, cashew, betel nut, and rice mill industries. Our aim has always been to improve the working conditions and rights of women in these sectors. In January 2024, with the support of the Dhwani Foundation, Thozhi was officially registered under the Society’s Registration Act of Tamil Nadu, 1975, becoming Thozhi Federation. Our federation is based in Dharmapuri and focuses on strengthening 100 member organizations. We aim to equip these organizations with the capacity for organizational development and to advocate for a "Violence-Free Working Environment with All Legal Rights as per Labour Act" for women workers.
